During her speech and in the debate that will follow, Anne Applebaum will share her knowledge and conclusions about the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its impact on world politics as well as growth prospects for Central and Eastern Europe.

The ABSL Summit is a key event for the business services sector in the CEE region and Europe as a whole. This annual conference, which analyzes global trends and their impact on economic and social development, attracts more than 1,000 business leaders from around the world, as well as local and central government representatives. This year's ABSL Summit will take place from 6th to 8th of September, at the ICE conference center in Krakow. The summit will focus on business resilience and the sector’s ability to adapt and chart a path for further development.

Pulitzer Prize laureate, historian, journalist, and commentator on geopolitics - Anne Applebaum is particularly appreciated for her deep understanding of the global socio-political landscape and insightful predictions regarding the future of international affairs. Her seminal contributions include world-renowned books such as "Gulag: A History", for which she received the Pulitzer Prize in the category of factual literature, "Twilight of Democracy. The Seductive Lure of Authoritarianism" and “Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe, 1944-1956”. Her articles in respected media outlets such as The Atlantic, The Spectator, and The Washington Post stimulate important conversations and underline Applebaum’s significant role in shaping the public discourse in the areas of politics, history, and international relations. Her deep understanding of the interplay of politics, society, and the economy offers an invaluable perspective, especially in the context of today's complex global situation.

Anne Applebaum's speech titled “The Russian invasion of Ukraine: why it happened, what it means, and how it will change world politics”, as well as her participation in the discussion which follows, “Clash of the Titans: Stay ahead with global economic and political outlook”, are planned for September 7th (9:30 -10:40 am).

Janusz Dziurzyński, President of ABSL, points out: In the face of challenges and increasing geopolitical tensions, we need unique perspectives. Anne Applebaum's authority, her knowledge of historical mechanisms, disinformation, and threats to democracy are very valuable in this context. I am convinced that her insightful view, combining conclusions drawn from the history of the region and from the perspective of its further development, will be invaluable for representatives of international businesses that operate in Poland as well as Central and Eastern Europe.

The keynote speaker at this year's ABSL Summit will be Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former Secretary General of NATO, who will share his perspective on current geopolitical challenges, threats to stability and security, and the role of Europe in maintaining peace.
